Remembering Sandy Hook Today

While I have held my own lifeless infant in my arms, I can’t imagine the emotion this day evokes for the parents and family of those who lost children and loved ones on December 14, 2012. I am reminded today how precious life is and will choose to do an act of kindness as requested by Sandy Hook Elementary School parents in memory of those who lost their lives.

I don’t believe anyone could misunderstand the love Jesus expresses for children in Mark 10:13-16 of the Bible when he became indignant at how they were being treated. We must all stand up and do what we can to eradicate the injustices of the world.

Sandy Hook has asked one thing of us: to do an act of kindness . . . I wonder, could this be a day when no evil is done . . . could this be a day justice prevails over injustice, could December 14, 2013 be a day where kindness prevails not just for Sandy Hook Elementary School but for the Kingdom of God? I wonder because if we believe in the one who brought us Christmas, then surely we believe God still works today in the people he brought Christmas for!

“And he took the children in his arms . . . (Mark 10:16, NIV).”

God may we all look to you for comfort in times of sorrow and may we be conduits of kindness. We ask that you be with each and every person who has suffered loss and bring them peace. In Jesus name we pray, Amen!
