Superbowl Gifts from God!
What is going on in the mind of a Superbowl player right now?
- Is he thinking how awesome it would be to take home a Vince Lombardi trophy?
- Does he think about the dream he had as a little boy of being a quarterback, working toward that goal, landing his position in the NFL, and having the honor of playing in this final championship game of the season, the Superbowl?
- Is he excited about being able to pass down the story of Superbowl XLVIII to his grandchildren?
I admit to not knowing much about football or what the players may be thinking right now. Honestly, I probably shouldn’t even write about it. I’m one who prefers to hang out in the kitchen enjoying the combination of unhealthy snacks with healthy conversation while catching glimpses of the game from afar.
Here’s what I do love. All of these players have worked really hard all season, training their bodies, taking hits, and refining the positions they are gifted for. In addition to them are the coaches and the support staff who have been there doing their parts as well. It’s the Superbowl – the final game – nothing changes – they each keep doing their part for the best possible outcome in the championship game. Imagine if Peyton Manning were pulled from quarterback in the Superbowl to play defensive back. What effect could that have on him, on the team, or on the final outcome?
Unity on the team and diversity in the gifting are a beautiful combination on a football team and in the church. Our God is an awesome God! He doesn’t make any mistakes when it comes to positioning his people with spiritual gifts.
If you have received Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, you received spiritual gifts the moment you were saved. “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work (1 Cor. 12:-4-6).”
Discover your gifts and use them for the glory of God (Romans 12:6-8; 1 Cor. 12:4-11; 1 Cor. 12:28)! God’s team is the winning team so stay focused and keep your spiritual gifts fit through daily training. You are valued, you are loved, and you are gifted by God! If you’re tackled running what could have been the winning touchdown, a trophy still awaits you in heaven!
God bless you today as you enjoy a Sabbath of food, fellowship, and football!
